Over the years working with straw bales I have jumped at every opportunity to further develop the use of straw bales in a combined wall and roof system, because it extends the simplicity (and fun) of the bale walls all the way up to the roof peak.

No more leaving the roof structure to the carpenter types.

With each iteration I learn more, and the archtype is slowly spreading: Lama Foundation in New Mexico now has three vaulted bale cottages built by women in workshops led by Shay Solomon, and these women in turn are now building vaulted cottages of their own.
